Croatia, a country at the crossroads of Central Europe, Southeastern Europe and the Mediterranean is an independent and sovereign state since 1991. On 1 July 2013 it joined the EU as 28th member state following a decade-long application process.
The service sector dominates Croatia's economy, followed by the industrial sector and agriculture. Croatia was badly affected by the global financial crisis of 2008 - 2009, which hit it's tourism-oriented economy hard and it has been mostly in recession since 2009.

Croatia is a country of striking natural beauty with a stunning Adriatic coastline and more than 1000 islands. Again it has become a very popular tourist destination and according to the governing structures tehre are indications that it is slowly emerging from recession.
The Croatian pharmaceutical market is traditionally generic with Teva (Pliva) and Belupo holding large controlling shares. The sales of these two companies made up for almost 20% of the total sales of drugs in Croatia. Further growth of the generics market is expected.
